Uber now brings UberEATs, its food delivery app, to India.
UberEATS, started as a small food delivery pilot in Los Angeles, is now all set to take on India.
Its time for foodies to cheer up, after its success in the
on-demand taxi aggregator services, Uber Technologies Inc. is gearing-up to
deliver food at your doorsteps.
Initially, uberEATS will be making its way to Delhi-NCR,
Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, followed by tier-2 cities,
depending on success of the service.
UberEATS was launched as a delivery pilot in Los Angeles in 2014. Since
then, it has expanded to 58 cities. the service also exists in Bangkok,
Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Taipei.
Allen Penn, Asia Pacific’s head of UberEATS, sees
tremendous potential ahead, “I am incredibly excited about bringing UberEATS to
India. This is a significant investment, it spans multiple cities and regions,
and it has the potential to change the food industry – with the push of a
button – in one of the most vibrant food cultures in the world.”
Uber’s entry into the food delivery segment comes at a time when most food start-ups Apps like like Swiggy, JustEat, Zomato, Foodpanda and TastyKhana are struggling with poor unit economics, while some have shut shop because of a dearth of funds.
